Hurricane season update

While the tropical Atlantic basin remains quiet, Tropical Depression Two-E has formed in the eastern Pacific less than 200 miles southwest of Acapulco off the southern coast of Mexico.

With persistent thunderstorms, T.D. Two-E should quickly become Tropical Storm Andres, moving increasingly northwestward along the Mexican Coast and then westward south of the southern tip of Baja.

Though remaining offshore, this tropical cyclone will likely bring heavy rain to southwest Mexico.

Another area of low pressure about 1600 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, remains poorly organized with only slight development possible over the next couple of days.

On the other side of the Pacific, Linfa has weakened to a 40 mile per hour minimal tropical storm. It continues to meander in the north China Sea and is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Taiwan and eastern China.

Top news stories and rumors of the week

The first sea trials of Royal Caribbean's much-awaited Oasis of the Seas were, for the most part, a "terrific success," says company Chairman Richard Fain. In his latest online missive, the newly blogging executive writes the 220,000-ton, 5,400-passenger vessel -- the largest cruise ship ever built -- ldquo;performed her various tests very well and everyone is very excited."
Princess Cruises has canceled two voyages on the Royal Princess in the wake of Thursday's engine room fire on the vessel.nbsp; In an announcement issued late Friday, the line said it made the decision after a damage assessment revealed that the 680-passenger vessel had been more affected by the fire than originally thought.
Celebrity Cruises will offer passengers the option of open seating in the main dining rooms of its ships by the beginning of fall. Top Celebrity executives told cruise writers touring the soon-to-launch Celebrity Equinox in Germany this weekend the line will roll out the option across the fleet in September.

Top news stories and rumors of the week

Holland America, which just added an entire new deck to the back of the 13-year-old Veendam to bring it more balcony cabins and, in an even more unusual twist, has added sliding doors to dozens of formerly window-only cabins facing the ship's walk-around Promenade deck to create what it is calling Lanai cabins.
Royal Caribbean's latest offering is about as far on the other end of the spectrum as you can get: A voyage to the Arctic Circle. The mass-market line today announced it will offer an 11-night sailing to the region in 2010 out of Copenhagen that includes visits to Norwegian Fjords and stops in such far-north Norwegian towns as Alesund and Honningsvag.
The much-ballyhooed "tethered blimp" ride that Royal Caribbean has been testing this week as a possible attraction for its soon-to-launch Oasis of the Seas broke loose from the ship today and floated away across the Baltic Sea.

Todayrsquo;s RCCL Segment
Special Cruise Pricing

Q:nbsp; nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Are there special prices for military personnel?
A:nbsp; nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Yes, we do offer special rates on selected sailings for military personnel.

It is important that at least one guest per stateroom be eligible to be considered in compliance with a restricted price program. It is also important to note that non-compliance of the restricted price program terms will result in the reservation being re-priced to the lowest available fare for that particular day. Furthermore, you will be responsible to pay for any differences immediately or else your boarding rights will be denied.

To qualify for a military rate, an individual must be classified as one of the following:

Active personnel currently serving in the Canadian National Defense; United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard or Reserves. Proper identification in the form of a United States Uniformed Services WHITE Identification Card for U.S. military personnel, and a WHITE N.D.21 Identification Card with a Red Canadian Flag displayed for Canadian National Defense personnel, must be presented at time of check-in.
Retired from any of the divisions listed directly above. "Retired" is defined as A) enlisted personnel or officers with a minimum of 20 years of service, B) medically retired, or C) 100% disabled. Proper identification for those classified in category A, or B must be in the form of a United States Uniformed BLUE Identification Card. Proper identification for those classified in category C is a United States Uniformed TAN Identification Card. Retired Canadian National Defense personnel are eligible and must possess the same white card as described above for active personnel. All forms of identification must be presented at time of check-in.
Veterans with an Honorable Discharge serving a minimum of 2 years, or 6-months in an active war zone, in any of the United States service divisions listed above. Proper identification in the form of a DD 214, plus a current photo must be presented at time of check-in.
Spouses of actively deployed, or deceased military personnel, are eligible to book one stateroom as long as the eligible spouse is occupying the stateroom. All other guests traveling in the same stateroom are also eligible for the military rate. Spouse must present the PINK Dependent Military ID upon check-in as proof of eligibility.

All guests traveling in the same stateroom are eligible to receive the military rate. No additional stateroom, other than the one that is occupied by the military person is eligible for the military rate. Spouses, parents, in-laws, children or other family members or friends are not eligible for the military rate without the eligible military person occupying the stateroom.nbsp;

Cruise junkies have something big to look forward to this weekend: The debut of a new series about cruise ships on the Travel Channel.Dubbed Cruises We Love! The half-hour show premieres Saturday at 10:30 PM ET/PT and will air multiple times each week through the summer. The 12-part series will profile mostly high-end ships operated by the likes of Crystal Cruises, Silversea Cruises and SeaDream Yacht Club. The first episode is on the Regent Seven Seas Navigator.
It's no secret that cruise lines have been struggling to fill ships in Alaska this year. Indeed, everyone from industry executives to Wall Street analysts have been calling the situation abysmal, noting that some lines have been forced to slash prices as much as 40%, on average, to keep ships full.
Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas pulled into Cozumel early in the day, becoming the first cruise vessel to return to the popular Mexican port town since the swine flu scare erupted in mid-April.
