Radiance of the Seas

Radiance of the Seas is a cruise ship that is owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. She is registered in Nassau, Bahamas, and is a gas-turbine vessel, the first built for Royal Caribbean. This system produces higher efficient speeds than other cruise ships, and emissions to the air are much lower than cruise ships powered by diesel engines. Radiance of the Seas is the first cruise ship to feature pool tables that are stabilized by a computer-controlled gyroscope. They adjust with the motion of the ship to keep the table-top level with the horizon.

Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas
May 23, 2008
MIAMI, May 23, 2008 – An oasis is commonly defined as a fertile area in an arid region or a place of refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast. Today, Royal Caribbean International adds another use of the term, defining it as the official name for the cruise line’s newest and most awe-inspiring class of cruise ships, until now referred to by the code name “Project Genesis.”
The name Oasis of the Seas was selected from more than 91,000 entries in Royal Caribbean’s “Name that Ship” contest, which the cruise line launched on January 18 in partnership with USA TODAY. Entrants were invited to submit two names ending in “of the Seas” that best encapsulate the universe of experiences a Royal Caribbean cruise provides guests. The contest marks the first time members of the general public, outside of the cruise industry, have been given the opportunity to name a cruise ship. [Read more]

Little Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

Little Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, is one of the Berry Islands, a collection of cays and small islands. It is less than a mile (around one kilometer) wide from east to west and less than a 200 yards (meters) from north to south. The east end is the center of recreational activities with beaches fronting a coral basin where manatee, rays, and numerous fish can be seen. There is a rocky inlet on the north side of the island large enough for the tenders operate from. Nature trails run the entire length and width of the island.
