Eureka!

MIAMI – May 8, 2008 – When Celebrity Cruises bar manager Jesus Gomez calls out “Eureka!”, those around him know that their taste buds are about to be delighted. “Eureka” is the name of the original cocktail that Gomez invented in the bars aboard Celebrity Summit, and it recently won him the coveted “BACARDI Bartender of the Year” honor in the third annual BACARDI Cruise Competition.
Gomez found inspiration for “Eureka” in the unexpected combination of white cranberry juice, fresh basil leaves, and cucumber. After muddling the cucumber and basil in the bottom of a shaker, Gomez adds the cranberry juice, along with BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® Gin, Triple Sec, and ice before shaking the drink and pouring it into a highball glass.
“We strive to offer outstanding dining and beverage choices to our guests,” said Jacques Van Staden, Celebrity’s Vice President of Food and Beverage Operations. “We know our guests love to experience the unexpected, and Jesus’ recipe does just that.”
Gomez, who is a native of Pampanga, Philippines, has worked for Celebrity Cruises for 12 years. Within the next several months, his “Eureka” recipe will be available fleetwide. The cocktail also will be the signature drink at The Lawn Club on Celebrity Solstice, the first in a new class of ships debuting later this year.
