If you choose not to go on any ship based excursions, the city itself is nice to wander around in. You will find a few more galleries than the normal port if you are looking for some interesting items (DW and I picked up some beautiful original watercolors there). I would echo that the “real” shopping is found by going across the floating bridge which crosses the main channel. The actual bay is quite beautiful, and is shaped somewhat like a heart, which is one version of how Curacao got its name (portugese I think). Take a few minutes and grab a beverage at one of the canal side cafes - if your lucky a seagoing vessel will enter the canal and you almost feel like you can reach out and touch these monsters as they float by. The shops across from the pier are more european in flavor, and you get a chance to see the interesting architecture.
Thanks for the info. It helps to hear from listeners who have been there. I would love to visit and check it out for ourselves. We just wanted to give folks “fair warning” but that should not discourage people from getting out there.
